Quick Start Guide
Welcome. You made it. Before you peel that lid, take two minutes with this page. It gets the app onto your phone, gets a few decisions out of the way, and makes sure you never have to boil anything twice.
The one rule
Leave the seal on until the app tells you to open it. The app will ask you to read and agree to a few things first. Once you have, it walks you to the moment you break the seal. If you decide Brux Aware is not for you before that moment, the sealed device goes back on our prepaid label and your purchase price comes back to you. Once the seal is broken the device cannot be resold, so from then on return shipping is on you.
Step 1. Get the app
Brux Aware is a sensor. The app is where you see what it recorded. Download it before you do anything else.
Get the Brux Aware app for iPhone or Android
You need an iPhone or Android phone with Bluetooth. No account is required to set up the device. An account is optional and only backs up your nights.
Step 2. Read and agree, in the app
Open the app and tap Set up new guard. (If you ever need to run setup again, it is also under Settings.) The app asks for your first name, then shows two screens you have to get through before anything else. None of the boxes are pre-ticked, and the app will not go further until you have decided.
Screen one: three confirmations and one choice.
- You are 18 or older. Brux Aware is for adults.
- You have read and agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Ticking the box opens them. They include an arbitration clause and a class action waiver, which is why we ask you to read them rather than just tap past.
- You understand this is not a medical device. Brux Aware is a general wellness product. It notices when you clench and shows you your own patterns. It does not diagnose, treat, cure, mitigate, or prevent any disease or condition.
- Your choice: whether to share anonymous activity data to help improve Brux Aware. Off by default. Nothing leaves your phone unless you turn it on, and you can change it any time in Settings.
Screen two: Start here. Brux Aware fits your upper teeth only, and there is a short list of dental situations (braces, recent dental work, loose teeth, crowns or implants, and a few more) where you should talk with your dentist before fitting it. You tick I have read this to move on.
Only after both screens does the app reach Get set up, and the first item on that list is Peel the lid off. That is your cue. Not before.
Step 3. Peel the lid, then let the app lead
Peel the protective lid off the tray, take the device out, check that everything is there, and keep following the app. It walks you through the three things that come next, with timers that run even when your phone is locked.
- Fit. You shape the device to your upper teeth with hot water from a kettle, once. Fifteen minutes. The app counts every step. Never use a microwave, a dishwasher, or a stovetop.
- Charge and pair. Device in the base, press the button on the back of the base, tap Pair in the app. About a minute.
- Set your levels. A thirty-second resting measurement with the device in, then pick how firm you want the pulse. The app sets everything above your own resting level so it does not buzz when you are simply lying on it.
The fitting, step by step
These are the same screens the app shows you during the fit, so you can read through them before you start, or come back to them later. The app adds the timers and keeps you on track.
Seventeen steps, the same ones the app walks you through. Use Next, swipe, or tap a number. The app adds the timers.
Step 1 of 17
Peel the lid off
Peel the protective lid off the tray and take the device out. Breaking the seal ends the free unopened return.
Step 2 of 17
Snap the guard into the fitting tray
The clear plastic handle. The guard stays clipped in for the whole fitting.
Step 3 of 17
Fill a glass with room-temperature water
Big enough to hold the tray. Used twice: a one-second dip, then five minutes at the end.
Step 4 of 17
Get your fork or tongs ready
To lift the tray out of hot water. Not your fingers.
Step 5 of 17
Stand the guard in the mug
Tray in the empty mug. Guard down, handle up.
If the handle goes under, you have nothing safe to lift it out by.
Step 6 of 17
Boil the kettle
Keep the mug away from the kettle.
Never put the guard in a microwave, a dishwasher, or the kettle.
Step 7 of 17
Off the heat, wait ten seconds
Boiling water will distort the guard.
Timer in the app: 10 seconds off the heat
Step 8 of 17
Pour, then one minute
Pour until the guard is covered. Keep the handle above the water.
Timer in the app: 1 minute in the water
Step 9 of 17
Lift it out
Use the fork or tongs on the handle. Shake the water off.
Step 10 of 17
Dip it in the cool water for one second
One second in the cool water. No longer.
Do not skip this. It stops a burn.
Step 11 of 17
Line it up in a mirror
Line the notch up with the gap between your front teeth.
People skip this and then blame the fit. Ten seconds at a mirror.
Step 12 of 17
Press it against your top front teeth
Open wide. Press it against your top front teeth.
Step 13 of 17
Bite and suck, ten seconds
Bite down hard and suck in. It may feel hot.
Timer in the app: 10 seconds, bite and suck
Step 14 of 17
Relax for one to two minutes
Stop biting. Do not move it.
Timer in the app: 1 to 2 minutes, setting
Step 16 of 17
Five minutes in cool water
Tray and guard into the cool water. This locks in the shape.
Timer in the app: 5 minutes, setting
Step 17 of 17
Take it out of the tray
Shake it out, dry it, unclip it. A good fit sits snug without biting, covers your teeth evenly, and does not rock.
Not right? Redo it up to three times. After that the material stops holding a shape.
What is in the box

If you would rather not continue
No hard feelings. If you read the terms in the app and decide not to agree, or simply change your mind before opening the device:
- Leave the seal on. An unbroken seal is what makes the return free.
- Email hello@bruxaware.com within 30 days of the day your order was delivered. Include your name, order number, and a line saying you are returning it unopened. We reply with a prepaid return label and an authorization number. Please wait for that before shipping anything.
- Send it back with everything in the box, on our label. Return shipping is on us for a sealed device. Your purchase price is refunded to your original payment method once it arrives and the seal is checked. Original shipping charges are not refunded.
The 30 days run from delivery, not from the day you open this page. If you are close to the line, email us first and we will note the date.
Already opened it and having second thoughts?
You are still covered. Our 30-Day Comfort and Satisfaction Guarantee applies to a device that has been fitted and worn, because we would rather you actually try it. Give it the 10-day adaptation program in the app, and if it is still not right for you, email us within 30 days of delivery. An opened device cannot be resold, so for these returns you cover the return shipping.
The first ten days
It will feel big at first. That is the sensors and the little motor inside, and it is normal. Start with twenty minutes while you read or watch something, add twenty minutes a day, and most people forget it is there within a week. The app has the full day-by-day schedule and will remind you.
Questions at any point
Reply to any email from us, or write to hello@bruxaware.com. A person reads every message. If the device ever pulses and will not stop, put it in its charger; it cannot run the motor while charging.
